“Rostros”

“Rostros” (faces) is a collection of drawings and paintings created as a tribute to my loved ones. Through this series, I explore the essence of each person using unusual combinations of colors, shapes, and outlines, moving away from traditional realism to create a more expressive and personal interpretation.

Each face comes to life through vibrant contrasts, spontaneous strokes, and compositions that aim to capture not only the appearance but also the energy and emotion of those who inspire these pieces. The choice of color does not adhere to reality but instead follows a subjective palette that enhances the character of each portrait, turning them into unique and almost fantastic representations.

I work with a variety of media, including gouache, acrylic paint, water-based and alcohol-based markers, and colored pencils on canvas or paper. This diversity of materials allows for a freer and more expressive exploration, where texture and pigment intensity play a key role in shaping each image.

"Rostros" is, at its core, an exercise in memory and emotion, a way to honor those who have left a mark on my life through a playful, colorful, and deeply personal visual language.
